About the work

Fractured Landscape (Profile View) explores a natural colour palette that juxtaposes intriguingly with the cut-out geometric shapes of Lambeth’s distinct style informed by Cubism and Purism. Orange and greens dominate the foreground, while yellows and blues appear receded in space despite the determined two-dimensionality of the artwork. It is this very sense of depth attributed to the decidedly planar components that draws and holds the eye, inviting deeper inspection as they reveal and conceal their intent, piece by piece. Fractured Landscape (Profile View) is part of a recent series of paintings by the artist that extends his investigations into the abstract relationship between space and colour. It engages the viewer in the act of looking, where spaces and forms fall away in one instance and jump forward, asserting themselves in the next.
