Concentric circles and neon-bright colours together draw the eye in this large-scale piece that, together with its siblings in form, make up Roblin’s Here & Now series. Visibly textured white paint sweeps across the canvas and though the square confines of the perimeter suggest a gentle boundary, it is easy to imagine the circles and horizontal lines of colour expanding beyond the edges, beyond the “here and now” and into infinity.
Artist Statement
“The HERE & NOW paintings are a playground of light and form vibrating energetically against the retina. The emotional impact of the experience triggers connection to our dynamic nature. The rhythmic motion enlivens our senses – sometimes exciting – sometimes inciting contemplation. When we probe the mystery of our own inspirations, we open ourselves to our inner luminosity. Intuition can guide us to a place of peacefulness through the purity of these forms. Interacting with the paintings, we may experience a spark … a bridge to the heart. The power and the possibility of these iconic paintings is to find that center … the Here & Now.”

Richard Roblin was a Canadian artist whose body of work spans painting, sculpture, architecture, and design. Born in Saskatchewan, Canada, Roblin was inspired by the vast prairie sky and developed a passion for drawing from an early age. Later, growing up in Southern Ontario, he found joy in sketching nature, which influenced his work in architecture and design. At the age of 21, his talent was recognized when the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts acquired one of his pieces.
Roblin’s journey as an artist took him across North America, Europe, Asia, and India, where he absorbed the teachings of various cultures. Known for his meditative approach to form, color, and texture, his work reflects a deep spiritual journey and architectural precision. His creative vision focused on the “magical resonances of color and form” and the “dynamics of luminosity,” which he used to express a sense of joy and vitality. Roblin described his process as shared movement, where each canvas becomes “an open door, a dance circle, a symphony of breath.”
Roblin’s works have been exhibited in major institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and are part of numerous corporate and private collections worldwide. His career included collaborations with architects and designers for site-specific artworks and major commissions. A pioneer of consciousness and a technical innovator in the arts, he continued to explore his creative practice in his home and studio on Vancouver Island. His work is represented by the Galerie d’Orsay in Boston.
