Lifeguard, the exuberant print by John Newsom, is from his Shangri-La Suite from the Flora and Fauna series. A fascination in flora and fauna spans across centuries and disciplines; from science to fine art, from the Galápagos to the far North, from ancient Indigenous sculpture to 19th Century naturalism and so on. Newsom’s oeuvre provides a contemporary dialogue with flora and fauna and with the birds in the foreground of his Shangri-La Suite. The works continue the visual exploration of that which is not human but continues to fascinate the human eye. Harmonious worlds are imbued with Newsom’s mastery of colour and celebrate the freedom of light and fleeting moments.
Flora and Fauna is published by limited edition fine art print publisher Art Novel. The suite is comprised of 10 serigraphs and in editions of 150.

Renowned American artist John Newsom was born in Oklahoma and has spent his career in New York City. His hyperreal prints and paintings draw on a vast legacy of eastern and western artistic practice, from early botanical sketching to Japanese printmaking to Mexican mural painting. American landscape tradition underpins his practice, witnessed by his large scale works, expressive honesty, and the freedom of his palette.
